Xtreme Waste: Whaingaroa

Xtreme Waste Incorporated Society was formed by the Raglan/Whaingaroa community through a series of meetings and consultative processes in 1999 and 2000. The society was established to manage Raglan’s solid waste within the principles of zero waste to landfill.

Xtreme Waste Inc. is a non-profit community organisation, working in partnership with Waikato District Council. Xtreme Waste operates a fully functional resource recovery park including specifically designated steel and wood yards, processing of recyclables and a reuse shop called Kaahu’s Nest. It also offers a comprehensive school education programme funded by Waikato District Council and Environment Waikato. Currently Xtreme Waste employs 24 local people and diverts approximately 75% of waste from landfill. In July 2007 Xtreme Waste successfully negotiated a seven year contract with Waikato District Council ensuring its continued presence for many years to come.

Our 2007/08 Annual report is now available online at http://www.xtremewaste.org.nz/news/annual_report_newsletter/
